About The Guy behind the mic.….The Story So Far

Sounds Good South West is owned and run by me, Chris Langmore. If you are not familiar with my name you might recognise the voice. For 6 years I was the voice between the programmes on ITV introducing everything from ‘Coronation Street’ to ‘Who wants to be a millionaire’, in the trade I was known as a continuity announcer. During that time I also presented the weather for ITV here in the South West and in London so you might also recognise the face!

 Here’s how it all started….

Son of a carpenter, I started my first mobile disco in my home town of Torquay at the tender age of 14, constructing my first roadshow out of the spare wood left over by father’s business. I was not the toast of my neighbours as I would spend hours and hours in the garage practicing my mic technique!

Despite those early days, and a lucky break, I became fairly well known on BBC Radio Devon and BBC Radio Cornwall. My late night radio show drew in a massive audience from far and wide.  Still to this day, Late Night Sou’ West holds the record for audience share on the BBC local radio network. It didn’t do much for my social-life though.

After 6 years of late night’s on the radio, and some time spent in London and Hull, the telephone rang with an offer I couldn’t refuse and I moved to the showbiz world of TV and the rest as they say is history.

I never stopped my mobile disco hobby. Even when I was on the radio or the TV, there’s nothing better than going out and having a really great time sharing and contributing to someone’s special event – and getting paid for it!

Working for network TV in London was exhausting and I missed the South West and my family. The disco had to be put on hold whilst I enjoyed (!) the daily commute to work to look after my little bit of ITV. Sitting in the “ITV1 This Morning studio” and looking out over the Thames was fun though.

Nowadays I work behind the scenes on a number of media projects across the South West, but the mobile disco hobby never went away... and I still get on with my ever-forgiving neighbours!

This picture was taken recently at my home studio on the outskirts of Plymouth, where I often work as a voice-over artist on a number of corporate presentations and TV documentaries.

So, people ask “What’s this disco; Sounds Good South West all about….?

Over the years I’ve heard some horror stories of bad practice in the world of mobile DJs, (Mentioning no names!) I just try and work that bit harder than the rest.  I think that tailoring a disco to an individual’s needs is what it is all about and working hard to put on the most professional show possible.

Latest News   1 I’ve been filling in on BBC Radio Devon and BBC Radio Cornwall. Here’s me at the studio in Exeter doing the show! Will there be more shows to come? A-ha, wait and see!

Latest News  2 I’ve been busy filming a series of TV programmes for Reader’s Digest TV about the many secret underground buildings of the UK, it’s a great 3 Disc series and I’m really proud of it. A bit of a change for me as I not only do the voice-over, but, I am in-vision as the presenter.

Me (In the Yellow hard hat) and the crew at Britain’s most secret cold-war bunker!

This picture was taken deep underground in darkest Wiltshire.

You can buy the series on DVD right now from; The Readers Digest Website  – Sorry about that shameless plug!
